Political analyst Prof Mutahi Ngunyi has launched a sharp critique against Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka over his 2027 presidential ambitions, questioning his political readiness to compete for State House.
In a statement on X, Ngunyi argued that Kalonzo appears to desire the presidency without showing the level of political aggression he believes is necessary to win it.
He suggested that the opposition figure is relying too heavily on goodwill rather than building a hard-edged campaign.
“Dear Kalonzo: You want the presidency, but not the fight. You want us to give it to you. You are not desperate enough to fight,” Ngunyi said in remarks that have triggered discussion in political circles.
He went further to frame politics as a survival game, stating that success often goes to those willing to engage in intense competition.
“Politics is the begotten child of Mother Nature. And Mother Nature is a b*tch. Its law of natural selection favours fighters. You are not one,” he added.
The remarks come as Kalonzo Musyoka, the Wiper Party leader, signals growing interest in the 2027 presidential race.
He has previously confirmed that he is ready to contest and has called for opposition unity ahead of the next General Election, where negotiations are expected to determine a single flagbearer.
Kalonzo, a former Vice President, is positioning himself within the opposition bloc as a key contender.
However, he is likely to face internal competition, with other leaders also seeking to secure the coalition’s backing as talks on a joint candidate take shape.
Ngunyi’s comments reflect a broader debate within political circles about Kalonzo’s long-standing political approach, which some critics describe as cautious and overly dependent on alliances rather than aggressive mobilisation.
