Social media personality and communications trainer Trophy Kiprono has formally announced her intention to vie for the Moiben parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election, positioning herself as part of a growing wave of youth seeking entry into Kenya’s political arena.

In a statement shared online, Kiprono said her decision initially drew skepticism, with some dismissing it as a publicity stunt.

However, she framed the reaction as reflective of a broader perception that elective politics remains the preserve of a select few.

“When I declared my interest to run for Member of Parliament for Moiben, a lot of people thought it was a prank,” she said.

“That is because we have always believed politics to be a reserve for a few. But I believe it is time for a change.”

Kiprono outlined a governance agenda centred on public interest, arguing that her leadership would prioritize policies that directly address the needs of ordinary citizens.

She emphasized inclusivity in decision-making and pledged to work with other reform-minded individuals to push legislative proposals that reflect grassroots concerns.

“If given this chance, other like-minded individuals and I will propose and enact policies that actually serve common mwananchi, not selfish interests,” she stated.

Her announcement comes amid increasing calls for youth participation in governance, particularly as Kenya’s political landscape evolves alongside shifting global dynamics.

Kiprono linked her ambition to wider geopolitical trends, suggesting that the current moment presents an opportunity for generational change in leadership.

“As you have observed the geopolitics of the world, you’ve realised there is change, and change is here. I believe it’s time more youths join politics,” she added.

She further highlighted equity, transparency, and accountability as the core pillars of her prospective leadership, themes that have featured prominently in recent public discourse around governance and public trust.

Moiben constituency, located in Uasin Gishu County, has traditionally been a competitive political battleground, with established politicians dominating past contests.

Kiprono’s entry introduces a new dynamic, particularly among younger voters and digital audiences who have followed her work in communication and public engagement.

While the 2027 race is still two years away, her early declaration signals the beginning of what could shape into a closely watched contest, as emerging leaders test their appeal against seasoned political figures.
