A butcher in Zurich, Switzerland, has been convicted of fraud after selling 3.1 tons of pork to Muslim customers while falsely labeling it as halal veal.
The deception went unnoticed for three years, only coming to light during a routine food safety inspection when an inspector immediately identified that the meat was not veal.
Authorities revealed that the butcher deliberately misrepresented the meat, knowing that veal commands a significantly higher price than pork.
