The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has announced a nationwide mobilisation plan following its Central Committee meeting held on Thursday, April 16, as the party turns its focus to grassroots consolidation and preparations for the 2027 General Election.

In a statement after the meeting, chaired by Oburu Odinga, the party said it had set out a clear direction aimed at strengthening both its internal structures and national political engagement.

ODM confirmed that its grassroots elections are now 98 per cent complete, marking a significant step in reorganising the party at the local level.

The leadership linked this progress to the recent Special Delegates Convention, noting that the party is entering a new phase of activity.

To build on this progress, ODM will launch a countrywide drive to popularise the party and strengthen its presence across the country.

Areas where grassroots elections are yet to be concluded have been asked to resolve disputes through internal party mechanisms to allow for a unified structure.

Youth engagement emerged as a key priority. The party plans to hold a series of youth conventions, starting in Nairobi on April 20 and Mombasa on April 26.

These meetings are expected to bring together young leaders and supporters as ODM seeks to expand its appeal among younger voters.

The party will then hold a joint retreat bringing together its National Executive Committee (NEC), Parliamentary Group, and governors from May 1 to May 3 to align on strategy and policy.

On nominations ahead of the 2027 elections, ODM assured members that the process will be free, fair, and transparent. The party said no aspirant will be given special treatment, and an official nominations portal will be opened soon.

ODM also called for respectful engagement across the political divide, urging leaders to maintain decorum in public statements.

At the national level, the party raised concern over the rising cost of fuel and the pressure it continues to place on households. It called on the government to take urgent measures to cushion Kenyans.

The party further urged the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) to expedite compensation for victims of police brutality, saying delays in resolving cases continue to deny justice.

The April 16 meeting sets the tone for ODM’s next phase as it prepares for a competitive political period leading to the 2027 elections.
