Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has stirred political debate after making strong remarks linking Siaya Governor James Orengo to long-standing succession politics within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), as internal realignments continue to take shape ahead of the 2027 election cycle.

In a statement that quickly gained traction in political circles, Ledama claimed that Orengo’s current positioning within the emerging Linda Mwananchi movement reflects a recurring pattern in ODM’s internal power struggles, particularly around leadership transitions.

“James Orengo is running a ghost play from 1994, attempting to seize the ODM mantle in the wake of Raila’s death just as he tried, and failed to claim it following Jaramogi’s passing,” Ledama said in remarks circulating online.

He added that ODM’s internal structures have historically resisted such shifts in leadership ambition.

The senator further argued that party succession dynamics within ODM have often followed a predictable institutional pattern.

“History shows that challenging the Odinga dynasty from within is a cycle of defiance and inevitable containment; today, Oburu Oginga is simply recycling the same institutional script that once successfully neutralized Orengo’s ambitions thirty years ago,” he stated.

The remarks come at a time when Orengo has emerged as a key figure within the Linda Mwananchi faction, a grouping within ODM that has been rallying support across several counties, including Nyanza and parts of Western Kenya.

The movement has increasingly positioned him as a central political voice, with some leaders publicly endorsing him in recent gatherings.

Orengo’s growing visibility within the faction has been accompanied by intensified internal debate over leadership direction and party restructuring, as ODM factions align themselves ahead of the next general election.

Political observers note that Ledama’s comments reflect the broader tensions playing out within ODM, where competing blocs continue to shape narratives around succession, legacy, and control of the party’s future direction.
