Kenya and the United Kingdom have stepped up efforts to strengthen cooperation on border security and migration management following high-level talks held in Nairobi.

Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs Korir Sing’Oei said he hosted a UK delegation led by Dan Hobbs for discussions focused on enhancing joint responses to emerging security and migration challenges affecting the region.

Sing’Oei described the United Kingdom as a key and long-standing partner, noting that bilateral relations remain anchored on shared historical ties and a mutual commitment to regional stability.

He said the partnership continues to play a critical role in addressing cross-border threats and safeguarding vulnerable communities.

The talks reviewed progress in the implementation of the recently signed Border Security Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which seeks to improve coordination in border management, intelligence sharing, and operational cooperation between the two countries.

Both sides also assessed ongoing work under the Kenya–UK Security Compact, a broader framework aimed at deepening collaboration in counter-terrorism, migration governance, and regional peace and stability initiatives.

According to Sing’Oei, the discussions placed particular emphasis on accelerating the delivery of agreed commitments, with a focus on ensuring that Kenya’s border regions are better protected from transnational threats including terrorism, organised crime, and irregular migration networks.

He added that the partnership is designed to strengthen institutional capacity and improve the safety of communities living along Kenya’s borders, many of whom are directly affected by insecurity and cross-border criminal activity.

The meeting comes amid growing efforts by Kenya to expand international security cooperation as part of its wider strategy to enhance stability in the Horn of Africa and reinforce its role in regional peacebuilding.

Officials from both sides expressed optimism that the renewed engagement will fast-track implementation of key security agreements and deepen operational collaboration in the coming months.
