Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has come out in defence of Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’oei, praising his record in office and rejecting criticism directed at the country’s diplomatic leadership.
In a statement shared on social media, Ahmednasir said Sing’oei has played a central role in improving Kenya’s foreign policy direction over the past four years, arguing that the country’s international standing has strengthened under his watch.
“Dr Singoei Korir has done an excellent job in the foreign office in the past four years and Kenya’s Foreign policy has gone few notches higher,” he stated.
He also praised Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, saying the two have worked effectively in steering Kenya’s diplomatic agenda.
According to him, the leadership at the ministry has delivered measurable progress in advancing Kenya’s interests abroad.
However, Ahmednasir did not spare criticism for President William Ruto’s diplomatic appointments, alleging that some ambassadorial choices were not based on merit.
He claimed that seasoned officers had been overlooked in favour of less qualified individuals, though he did not name those he was referring to.
“Of course H.E William Ruto in his sole discretion has appointed few useless characters as ambassadors and overlooked seasoned officers,” he said.
His remarks come at a time when Kenya’s foreign service has been under public and internal scrutiny, with discussions emerging around leadership style, diplomatic communication, and the effectiveness of senior officials in managing international relations.
Some diplomats and observers have privately expressed concerns over internal tensions within the Foreign Affairs ministry, pointing to differences in management approach and communication protocols.
Others, however, have defended the current leadership, arguing that Kenya’s diplomatic engagement has become more assertive and visible on the global stage.
Sing’oei, who serves as Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, has in recent years been at the forefront of Kenya’s international diplomacy, representing the country in regional and global engagements.
His role has placed him in key discussions involving foreign policy, regional security, and international cooperation.
While he has earned praise from supporters who cite improved diplomatic visibility, he has also faced criticism in some circles over communication style and internal ministry dynamics.
No formal allegations or investigations have been established against him.
Ahmednasir’s remarks add to the ongoing debate over the performance of Kenya’s foreign policy leadership, highlighting a growing divide between critics of the diplomatic system and those who believe reforms under the current administration are yielding results.
