Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has expressed deep sorrow following the tragic death of Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno, who died in a helicopter crash in Chepkiep, Nandi County yesterday.
The aircraft, attempting an emergency landing amid heavy rainfall, caught fire, claiming the lives of the MP and three others, including the pilot.
In a brief condolence message, Senator Sifuna said, “It’s one of those days. There isn’t much to say that will make sense of what has happened. To the family, friends and constituents of Emurua Dikirr MP Johanna Ngeno and all those on board that chopper, poleni sana.”
His statement reflected the sense of shock and grief that has swept across political and social circles following the tragedy.
The ill-fated helicopter crash has sparked widespread mourning in Emurua Dikirr Constituency and beyond. Johana Ngeno, known for his vocal representation and advocacy for his constituents, was travelling for official engagements when the accident occurred.
Heavy rains in the Nandi region reportedly forced the pilot to attempt an emergency landing, during which the aircraft went up in flames, leaving no survivors.
Political leaders including president Ruto have taken to social media to express condolences and highlight Ngeno’s contributions to his community.
His work in parliament, particularly his focus on development projects and advocacy for the rights of local farmers and pastoralists, earned him respect and admiration across party lines.
The National Police Service and the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority have launched investigations to determine the exact cause of the crash.
