As Kenya mourns the sudden death of Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno, his close aides have shared intimate memories of life alongside the late legislator.

One such recollection comes from GK Kechwo, a personal aide, who revealed how helicopter rides were a regular part of their work routine.

“To me and many others, chopper rides were an everyday occurrence. I could board as many times as I wished. Sasa ni kama imeisha hivyo. Probably until I have the ability to hire by my own,” Kechwo shared.

According to the aide, Ngeno’s approach to travel reflected his inclusive nature.

“The way Ngong treated us was so special. A chopper would come. Only three seats were reserved; his seat, the cameraman’s, and of course that of the pilot. Three seats were up for grabs, and anybody could just hop in, no status, no class,” he recalled.

Kechwo admitted that his unique role often earned him a spot in the helicopter.

“I had a slight advantage over others. One, in the absence of Nick Kosgey and Guru Buvati, I would be the cameraman. Two, I was Mheshimiwa’s personal storyteller. I would keep him busy with stories and also consume his stories. So somehow, I booked myself a kind of permanent space in his helicopter,” he added.

The aide’s recollection paints a picture of a lawmaker who valued accessibility and camaraderie with his staff, allowing even junior aides to share in experiences often reserved for senior officials.

It also sheds light on the lighter, human side of a political figure whose public life was marked by constant engagement with his constituents.

MP Johana Ngeno tragically died on Saturday, February 28, when his helicopter crashed in Mosop, Nandi County.

The lawmaker’s death has left a void in Emurua Dikirr constituency, prompting tributes from colleagues, constituents, and close aides alike, who remember him not only as a public servant but also as a mentor and friend.
