Nairobi gubernatorial aspirant through the DCP Party, Irungu Nyakera, has recounted a violent attack on his hotel in Kisumu, describing how over 100 assailants damaged property and injured staff early Wednesday morning.
In a post shared on social media, Nyakera said the attackers tied up a security guard and vandalized parts of the hotel.
He claims he intervened personally, firing two warning shots into the air as the assailants fled. Despite calling the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) for backup, he said reinforcements did not arrive, prompting him to send a stern warning to prevent further intrusion.
Nyakera linked the incident to previous confrontations three weeks ago, when he alleges “goons, working alongside our landlord LBDA under instructions from PS Raymond Omollo,” seized merchandise and locked him out of the premises.
According to Nyakera, the Nyanza Region DCI confirmed that Omollo has personal interests in the property, citing his former role as LBDA CEO and family ties with the current CEO.
“I took over this premises as a shell in 2019 and have invested over 235 million shillings, holding a 50-year lease as per court records. If PS Raymond Omollo wants to acquire the property, let him come for a valuation—I am willing to sell,” Nyakera wrote.
He added that attempts to intimidate him using ethnic slurs would not succeed.
Nyakera, who is preparing for the 2026 Nairobi gubernatorial race, described himself as an investor committed to defending his interests but warned against using force or intimidation.
Security agencies in Kisumu have not independently verified the claims, and it remains unclear if an official investigation has been launched into the incident.
The post has sparked discussions on social media about political intimidation and property rights for investors affiliated with opposition parties in Kenya.
