Parts of the camera belonging to journalist Nick Kosgei, who perished alongside Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno in a recent plane crash, have been recovered, offering potential clues for investigators examining the tragic incident.
Brian Kipkogei, a close friend of Kosgei, shared the update on Facebook, revealing that a local resident had handed over the camera components retrieved from the crash site.
He confirmed that the items have been reported to the relevant authorities to assist in ongoing investigations.
“Just in. A resident today came to me saying that I hide their identity and brought this part of camera that was used by Nick that was found yesterday. I’ve contacted relevant authorities to come for it to help for further investigations. Thanks to the members of the community for helping in investigations,” Kipkogei posted.
The recovered camera may prove crucial in helping investigators reconstruct the events leading to the crash, which claimed five lives, including MP Ngeno and Kosgei.
Authorities are expected to analyze any data or footage from the device to determine what caused the aircraft to go down.
In addition to the recovery of evidence, burial arrangements for the victims have been announced.
The families, in coordination with local leaders, on Wednesday held a memorial service in Nairobi.
Funeral services are set for Friday in Emurua Dikirr.
The ceremonies are expected to bring together political leaders, colleagues, and members of the community to pay their final respects.
The crash, which occurred under circumstances still under investigation, has shocked the nation.
Kosgei, a respected videographer, had been covering events and activities linked to MP Ngeno at the time of the accident.
Authorities have assured the public of a thorough investigation, with aviation experts examining both the wreckage and any recovered media.
Meanwhile, local residents continue to support the probe by securing and reporting any additional equipment or debris.
