The Ministry of Health has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that a vehicle in the convoy of Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale was involved in a road accident in Kisumu on Sunday.

In a statement, the ministry said the Cabinet Secretary’s motorcade only stopped at the scene of the accident to coordinate emergency assistance for the victims. The crash occurred at Otonglo near the Molasses Plant along the Kisumu–Busia road.

According to the ministry, Duale was travelling from Rarieda to Kisumu International Airport when his convoy encountered the accident.

Upon arriving at the scene, the CS immediately mobilised an emergency medical response to assist those injured.

“Following the accident, immediate rescue efforts were coordinated, leading to the evacuation of more than 19 injured persons to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital for urgent medical attention,” the ministry said.

Authorities confirmed that two people died at the scene of the crash. Another victim later succumbed to injuries while being transported to hospital.

Emergency responders, local authorities and medical personnel quickly moved in to secure the area, treat the injured and organise their transfer to hospital. The ministry said the swift coordination helped ensure victims received timely medical care.

The clarification comes after claims on social media suggested that one of the vehicles in Duale’s convoy had been involved in the crash.

The ministry said the reports were inaccurate, noting that the convoy merely stopped to offer assistance.

“The Ministry of Health conveys its condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones and wishes a quick recovery to those receiving treatment,” the statement added.
