Political analyst Prof. Mutahi Ngunyi has thrown his support behind Moses Budamba Mudavadi, the eldest son of Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi, as the young politician campaigns for the Westlands parliamentary seat in the 2027 elections.
In a recent statement, Prof. Ngunyi described Moses as a “war hero,” recalling his heroic role in rescuing his brother during the DusitD2 terrorist attack in Nairobi.
“I am worried that the terrorists might hit us over the Iran war,” Prof. Ngunyi said, emphasizing Moses’ courage and resilience.
“This guy is a war HERO. He was doing a door-to-door campaign for Westlands MP. He has my 12 votes. Iko Swali?”
Moses Budamba, who comes from a prominent political lineage, has embarked on early grassroots mobilization, meeting residents and community leaders across Westlands.
The son of Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi and Tessie Shangatti Mudavadi, Moses has highlighted his commitment to youthful leadership, accountability, and development initiatives in the constituency.
Political observers note that Moses’ candidacy represents a continuation of the Mudavadi family legacy in Kenyan politics.
His grandfather, Moses Substone Budamba Mudavadi, served as Sabatia MP, while his father has held senior government positions for decades.
Despite this lineage, Moses has stressed that he seeks to build his own political identity, separate from his family’s influence.
The Westlands seat is set to be highly contested in 2027, with potential rivals including former Law Society of Kenya president Nelson Havi, and Mike Gumo, son of former MP Fred Gumo. The constituency is currently represented by Tim Wanyonyi, who has held the seat since 2013.
Prof. Ngunyi’s endorsement reveals Moses’ appeal not only as a political figure but also as a person of proven courage.
As the campaign intensifies, early endorsements like this could shape the emerging dynamics of Westlands politics ahead of the general election.
Moses Budamba’s campaign now seeks to translate his personal story and family legacy into a viable electoral advantage in a highly competitive urban constituency.
