The family of journalist Nick Kosgei has announced a three-day funeral programme following his death in the Nandi plane crash that also claimed the life of Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ngeno and four others.
Bomet Governor Hilary Barchok, speaking on behalf of the family, confirmed that the memorial events will begin in Nairobi before proceeding to Narok and later Bomet County for the final burial rites.
According to the schedule released on Tuesday, a joint mass service for all six victims will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at AGC Karen Church in Nairobi.
The service is expected to bring together leaders, members of the media fraternity, family and friends.
On Friday, March 6, Kosgei’s body, alongside two others, will be flown from Nairobi to Emurua Dikirr Primary School for a joint funeral mass. The event will allow residents of the constituency to pay tribute to the victims.
Later that evening, the body will be airlifted to Bomet and preserved at the AGC Tenwek Hospital Mortuary in preparation for the final send-off.
The burial ceremony will take place on Saturday, March 7, at Precious Academy Grounds in Kipkebe. After the funeral service, Kosgei will be laid to rest at his family home in Kipkebe.
Governor Barchok conveyed the family’s appreciation for the support received since the tragedy.
He said the family was grateful for the messages of comfort and solidarity from across the country during what he described as a difficult period.
Kosgei was widely known for his coverage of political and community affairs. His death has drawn tributes from colleagues in the media industry and leaders across the political divide.
Investigations into the cause of the Nandi plane crash are ongoing, with authorities yet to release an official report.
Meanwhile, preparations for the joint memorial services continue as families and communities mourn the six victims of the fatal accident.
