Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has sharply criticized Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna for refusing to step down from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) following his removal as the party’s Secretary General.
In a social media post on Thursday, Salasya accused Sifuna of disappointing the nation by remaining in the party despite being dropped by the National Executive Committee (NEC) during a meeting held in Mombasa on Wednesday.
“You have disappointed me and the entire nation. Enda pia ukufie uko kwa broadbased ghasia wewe nkt,” Salasya wrote.
The lawmaker’s remarks add to the growing political storm within ODM after the NEC resolved to remove Sifuna from the influential administrative position.
The decision has exposed deep divisions within the party, with some leaders defending the move while others question its legality and timing.
Despite the ouster, Sifuna has maintained that he remains the legitimate office holder. In his response, the Nairobi Senator dismissed the NEC decision and reaffirmed his loyalty to the party.
“I remain a loyal member and the duly elected secretary general of the ODM party,” Sifuna said.
Sifuna’s stance signals a potential internal standoff that could escalate into a legal and political battle over the party’s leadership structure. ODM has recently faced tensions linked to its internal reorganization and broader political realignments at the national level.
Salasya, who has previously positioned himself as an outspoken critic on governance matters, did not indicate whether he is formally aligned with any faction within ODM but made it clear he believes Sifuna should exit the party altogether.
The unfolding dispute comes at a time when ODM is navigating sensitive political alignments, raising questions about cohesion and leadership stability within one of Kenya’s largest opposition parties.
