A Kenyan businesswoman based in the United States has sparked conversation among diaspora communities after sharing candid advice about financial discipline, peer pressure, and lifestyle choices abroad.

Nafula Sharleen, who hosts and mentors new immigrants in America, warned that many Kenyans in the diaspora risk damaging their financial stability by succumbing to social pressure, excessive drinking, and online showmanship.

Writing on Facebook, she claimed that Kenyans are widely stereotyped abroad for heavy drinking habits and urged newcomers to be intentional about the company they keep.

According to her, social circles can determine whether immigrants build stable lives or sink into debt. She cautioned that the pressure to maintain flashy lifestyles for social media often pushes individuals into poor financial decisions, including loans and bad credit histories.

Sharleen advised new arrivals to prioritize career growth, financial stability, and supporting families back home before indulging in luxury habits. She emphasized that alcohol is not going anywhere and should only come after one is financially secure.

She further urged immigrants to avoid destructive peer influence, noting that those who associate with heavy drinkers often adopt similar habits. Instead, she encouraged associating with individuals who are career-oriented, family-focused, and disciplined.

The entrepreneur also spoke about her hosting initiative, saying part of her mission is to guide newcomers toward productive lifestyles.

She claimed individuals who have passed through her mentorship have achieved financial progress quickly, including building strong credit histories, paying off vehicles, and saving money.

Sharleen emphasized that discipline and focus are key pillars in her program, adding that even those who drink do so responsibly.

She said her approach promotes mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and positive growth among those she hosts.

Her message comes amid ongoing discussions within diaspora communities about financial pressures, mental health challenges, and the influence of social media on immigrant lifestyles
