Six people have been confirmed dead following a helicopter crash at Chepkiep Forest in Mosop, Nandi County, in an incident believed to have been caused by bad weather.
Witnesses said the chopper, which was flying from Nairobi, attempted an emergency landing after encountering poor weather conditions. It reportedly caught fire moments after going down.
Local residents said the aircraft had initially landed in the forest, where the occupants — described as two foreigners and four young Kenyans — briefly disembarked and took photographs.
The helicopter then took off again but crashed about 300 metres away, bursting into flames on impact.
Flight tracking data indicated the aircraft had departed Nairobi before the ill-fated flight.
Authorities are expected to begin investigations to establish the cause of the crash as rescue teams secure the scene.
