(ODM) is grappling with internal divisions as factions emerge around support and opposition to the concept of a broad-based government, a situation intensified by the controversial ouster of Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.

Politician and businessman Rodgers Kipembe Mpuri has weighed in, shedding light on the party’s strategic maneuvers and grassroots mobilization.

Mpuri, speaking to local media, acknowledged ODM’s political savvy, noting, “ODM understands the art of political strategy. They know how to stage a fight and keep the public glued to them.”

He added that while some party leaders remain largely passive, others are doubling down on their outreach efforts.

“While others remain passive, they are holding two rallies, one in Nairobi and another in Mombasa, mobilizing supporters and consolidating their grassroots presence.

Meanwhile, Kalonzo is merely attending funerals,” Mpuri observed, referring to former vice president and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s low-key engagement in political activities.

The businessman-politician argued that these active factions are not merely reacting to ongoing political events; they are deliberately shaping public narratives to strengthen their foothold.

“They are not just reacting to politics; they are actively shaping the narrative and strengthening their foothold on the ground,” he said.

The ouster of Sifuna, who has long been a central figure in ODM, has added fuel to the factional debates, highlighting disagreements over leadership style and strategic direction.

Supporters of the broad-based government initiative argue it positions the party for wider national influence, while opponents fear it could dilute ODM’s ideological stance and core support base.
