Opposition leaders have vowed justice for Vincent Ayomo, the 28‑year‑old man shot dead by police after a Linda Mwananchi rally in Kitengela.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino visited Ayomo’s family on Monday, condemning the circumstances that led to his death and calling for accountability from authorities.
Ayomo was shot during chaotic scenes after police moved to disperse the rally on 15 February 2026.
In a statement, Sifuna said he and his Linda Mwananchi team were in Kitengela “to condole with the family of Vincent Ayomo … who was shot dead by police.”
He described the killing as senseless and blamed police for escalating the situation shortly after the rally was violently dispersed.
Sifuna pledged to continue pressing for justice, calling Ayomo’s death part of a “legacy of needless deaths” under President William Ruto’s administration.
Babu Owino described Ayomo’s death as “heartbreaking and unacceptable,” urging authorities to protect citizens exercising their democratic rights.
He said his team had “taken care of the funeral expenses,” and extended condolences to Ayomo’s widow, Khadija, and their infant child.
Babu stressed that political rallies should be platforms for dialogue, not tragedy, and called for a “swift, transparent investigation” into the shooting.
The killing of Ayomo has heightened tensions between opposition figures and the government, with the Linda Mwananchi rallies drawing large crowds and frequent confrontations with police.
In the days after the Kitengela incident, other rallies in Kakamega and elsewhere were also marked by clashes, accusations of unlawful crowd control, and additional injuries.
