Nyali Member of Parliament Mohamed Ali has sharply responded to a report by Stephen Letoo alleging that he has been unveiled as the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate for Mombasa governor in the 2027 General Election.
The report, shared on social media, quoted Letoo as saying: “DCP Leader Rigathi Gachagua unveils Nyali MP Official Jicho Pevu with Mohammed Ali as DCP Candidate for Mombasa Governor as the former DP lays strategy to bag Key Cities in the 2027 General Election.”
In a swift rebuttal, Ali dismissed the framing of the announcement and accused the journalist of pushing propaganda.
“Stephen Letoo Kuja tu kwa siasa badala ya kujificha kwa propaganda ya serikali ukiahidiwa certificate ya MP. Ama ukuje unihoji kama utapewa mic na camera nikuambie ukweli wa mambo. Ur a journalist but of late you have been behaving like a quack. Rigathi Gachagua amesema his supporting my candidature. Ni nini huelewi?”
Ali’s remarks reveal the growing political tension as realignments begin ahead of the 2027 polls.
While Letoo’s report suggested a formal unveiling, the MP clarified that Rigathi Gachagua had expressed support for his gubernatorial ambitions rather than announcing an official party ticket.
The Nyali legislator recently decamped from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), associated with President William Ruto, and joined the DCP.
His move signaled a major political shift at the Coast and aligned him with Gachagua, who has been building influence following his fallout with the government.
In recent months, Ali has been seen accompanying the former deputy president in political engagements, fueling speculation about a broader strategy to capture key urban counties.
