The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has arrested an interdicted staff member of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council in connection with alleged fraud targeting the Social Health Authority (SHA), in the latest move by authorities to tighten oversight in the health sector.
In a statement posted on X, the DCI identified the suspect as Harun Liluma.
He was arrested on Wednesday as part of what detectives described as ongoing investigations into illegal activities affecting the Social Health Authority.
According to investigators, Liluma is expected to be arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts to face multiple charges. These include conspiracy to defraud, abuse of office, and computer fraud.
The charges were approved by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions following investigations conducted by DCI officers.
The DCI said the arrest signals a broader crackdown on individuals and entities suspected of exploiting systems within the Social Health Authority for personal gain.
Authorities did not immediately disclose the amount of money allegedly involved or whether additional suspects are being pursued.
The Social Health Authority, which was established to manage public health insurance services, has recently faced scrutiny over governance and operational concerns.
The government has pledged to protect public funds and ensure accountability within institutions handling health contributions.
Investigators maintained that the case underscores their commitment to safeguarding citizens from fraudulent schemes that could result in financial losses.
They urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities linked to SHA services.
Liluma remains in custody pending his court appearance, where he is expected to take a plea. The matter is likely to draw public attention as reforms and oversight within the health sector continue to dominate national discourse.
