Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma has issued a pointed warning to Embakasi East MP Babu Owino over his declared intention to contest for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

In a post on social media platform X, Kaluma questioned Owino’s political strategy, accusing him of being misled by rival political interests.

“Gachagua and his Kikuyu tribalists are supporting uneducated Gakuya to be Governor of Nairobi, NOT YOU,” Kaluma wrote, suggesting that Owino’s ambitions could be exploited by opponents.

Kaluma further tied the rivalry to historical grievances, reminding Owino of what he described as longstanding ethnic tensions dating back to the 1969 Wamera Oath.

“Forget their support as long as ‘O’ begins your name. You’re a fool if you thought their rejection of Baba was directed at Raila as an individual,” Kaluma stated, in a clear reference to the ODM party leader Raila Odinga.

The Homa Bay MP also criticized media narratives promoting other political figures, including Edwin Sifuna, claiming that the supposed hype over Sifuna’s potential Nairobi Senate candidacy is a diversion.

“The Sifuna media hype is to dupe you with that useless Nairobi Senate Seat for Edwin Sifuna as Gachagua takes the Nairobi Governor’s seat, after all your efforts to divide The ODM party – NOTHING FOR YOU,” he posted.

Kaluma concluded his message with a cautionary note to Owino, urging him to remain loyal to his roots and avoid giving political advantage to adversaries.

“Never abuse your father for the enemy; never leave your home for that of the enemy,” he wrote.

The statement is likely to fuel further debate within ODM and among Nairobi’s political circles, as speculation grows over which leaders will position themselves for the 2027 gubernatorial contest.
