Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has sent a strong political message to former nominated senator Millicent Omanga following Omanga’s announcement that she intends to vie for the Nairobi County Woman Representative seat in the 2027 General Election.
Omanga, speaking on Friday through a social media post, said she would be on the ballot in 2027, citing encouragement from her supporters.
She signalled confidence in her political base, stating that she would contest the seat “with my people” and that she had listened to calls from the public to run.
"Wengi wananiuliza Rada ...2027, nitakuwepo Nairobi Women Rep. Na nitakua saana – with my people. Nimewaskia, tuko pamoja!" Omanga announced on X.
Hours later, Nyamu responded with a blunt and highly publicised statement, making it clear that she also has her eyes on the same seat and is not ready to step aside.
In her post, Nyamu questioned why many aspirants were targeting what she described as “her 2027 seat” and warned Omanga that the race would not be easy.
She further argued that Nairobi’s political balance should favour one woman leader in 2027, after the city elected a male senator in 2022.
"Na hii kiti yangu ya 2027 kwani nyinyi wote mnataka? kitakuramba my sister usiseme sikukwambia. Tulisema Kanairo senator ni mjamo 2022. 2027 tunasema Kanairo mama ni mmoja siku zote. Get ready get ready," Karen Nyamu stated.
The exchange has sparked early debate about a looming contest between two outspoken politicians who both enjoy strong online influence and visibility, particularly among urban youth.
Both Nyamu and Omanga are associated with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), raising questions about how the party will manage internal competition in Nairobi ahead of the nominations.
