Political blogger Gordon Opiyo has accused Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka of misleading the public after claiming credit for donating a school bus to Miumbuni Secondary School in Machakos County.
In a statement posted on X, Kalonzo said he had honoured a promise made to students during a visit to the school last year, presenting the bus as a personal commitment fulfilled.
He framed the gesture as an example of accountable leadership, arguing that leaders must keep promises made to citizens, regardless of scale.
However, Opiyo disputed the claim, saying subsequent verification showed the bus was not donated by Kalonzo personally.
According to the blogger, the vehicle was purchased using funds from the Kathiani Constituency Development Fund (CDF) during the 2024–2025 financial year.
Opiyo further claimed the funds were disbursed under the current administration, crediting President William Ruto’s government for timely release of CDF allocations.
He contrasted this with delays experienced in previous years, although no official CDF documentation was publicly shared alongside his statement.
The blogger apologised to his followers for initially accepting Kalonzo’s social media post at face value, saying he had been “misled” by information shared on the former vice president’s official page.
He accused Kalonzo of falsely suggesting the bus was pledged and delivered within six months through personal intervention.
In a strongly worded critique, Opiyo argued that the incident reinforces long-standing questions about Kalonzo’s development record since joining national leadership in the early 1980s.
He framed the dispute as part of a broader debate on political accountability and the use of public resources for political branding.
The controversy has reignited online debate over transparency, CDF utilisation, and the tendency by politicians to claim credit for publicly funded projects.
