Police in Homa Bay County have seized 2,353 rolls of cannabis sativa following a swift intervention at Achuodho Beach, officials confirmed yesterday.
The operation, conducted by officers from Kendubay Police Station, was triggered by a tip-off regarding suspected drug trafficking in the area.
Information received indicated that a tuk-tuk had been seen offloading sacks of bhang at a local rental house.
Responding promptly, officers raided the premises and recovered four large sacks of the narcotic, believed to be destined for illegal distribution within the county.
One individual found at the scene was arrested and is now in custody pending arraignment in court.
“The National Police Service commends the officers involved for their swift action and the public for providing timely information that led to the successful interception,” a statement from the police read.
The recovered cannabis has been secured at Kendubay Police Station, where it will remain as evidence for ongoing investigations.
Police have reiterated their commitment to intensifying anti-narcotics operations across Homa Bay County and called on the public to continue reporting suspicious activities.
This seizure forms part of a broader crackdown on illegal drugs in the region, with authorities noting a rise in community cooperation as a key factor in the success of enforcement efforts.
Residents have welcomed the operation, describing it as a step towards reducing drug-related crime and safeguarding local youth.
Law enforcement officials, however, caution that while this is a significant interception, continuous vigilance is necessary to curb the circulation of illicit substances.
The police have assured the public that similar operations will continue across Homa Bay and neighboring counties as part of the National Police Service’s ongoing campaign against narcotics trafficking.
