Nairobi County Executive Committee Member for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service Geoffrey Mosiria has confirmed that veteran musician William Peter Kinyonga, a member of the legendary Simba Wanyika band, is safe and receiving care after being rescued from the streets several months ago.
In an update shared on social media, Mosiria said many Kenyans had been inquiring about the former band member’s condition since his rescue.
He revealed that Kinyonga was taken to Mji wa Huruma, a charitable home that cares for elderly and vulnerable persons, where he is currently staying.
According to the county official, the musician is in stable condition and receiving the support he needs.
Mosiria appealed to Kinyonga’s relatives to visit him at the facility, noting that family involvement plays a key role in emotional recovery and long-term wellbeing.
Mosiria used the update to reiterate the county government’s commitment to rescuing vulnerable individuals from the streets and restoring their dignity.
He emphasized that the initiative forms part of broader social protection efforts targeting elderly citizens who are abandoned, homeless, or unable to care for themselves.
The story of Kinyonga has drawn public attention to the plight of aging artists and other elderly citizens who fall into hardship despite past contributions to society.
Mosiria urged members of the public to take part in helping vulnerable people, saying community action remains essential in addressing homelessness and neglect.
He called on Kenyans to support rescue efforts and to be part of initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of those living on the streets, stressing that collective responsibility can help restore dignity and hope to the most vulnerable members of society.
