Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna now confronts a critical decision in his political career following his removal as Secretary-General of ODM during a recent National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Mombasa.

The party leadership vote has left Sifuna navigating a complex political landscape with several potential paths forward.

According to reports from Taifa Leo, the senator has four main options.

He can choose to remain within ODM despite losing his leadership post, attempt to chart an independent political course outside the party, or form alliances with other political factions.

One possibility includes joining forces with President William Ruto’s camp under the Azimio la Umoja or Jubilee coalition.

Another route would see him align with opposition figures such as Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua or Kalonzo Musyoka, potentially leveraging their platforms for political influence.

Political analysts note that Sifuna’s decision carries significant implications for both his personal career and the broader opposition strategy in Nairobi and nationally.

Remaining in ODM could provide continuity and party support, but may limit his political maneuverability. Conversely, shifting alliances could boost his influence but risk alienating existing supporters.

ODM’s internal shake-up reflects growing tensions within Kenya’s opposition, as party leaders reevaluate positions ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.

For Sifuna, the coming weeks will be pivotal in determining whether he remains a central figure within the party or takes on a new, independent political identity.
