The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has issued a statement clarifying the circumstances surrounding the death of Corporal James Muiruri Mburu, a Kajiado North Sub-County officer, who passed away on February 21, 2026.
In a statement, the DCI expressed profound sorrow over the loss of Corporal Muiruri, describing him as a dedicated officer and a valued member of the DCI family.
The agency extended condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues, urging the public to respect their privacy during this difficult time.
The clarification comes amid misinformation circulating on social media suggesting that Corporal Muiruri died at DCI Headquarters. The DCI confirmed that the incident actually occurred at his residence in Ngong.
According to the statement, a neighbor’s house help discovered him unresponsive in the kitchen garden and immediately alerted authorities.
Three fellow officers responded promptly and rushed him to Ngong Level IV Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Initial investigations by Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers, together with personnel from the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC), revealed the presence of a live electrical wire beneath the garden’s surface.
Preliminary findings indicate that electrocution may have caused his death, though a postmortem examination will determine the exact cause.
The incident has also been formally reported at Ngong Police Station under OB No. 38/21/02/2026.
The DCI emphasized that an official inquiry is ongoing and urged the public to avoid speculation. The agency called for respect for the grieving family, stressing the importance of preserving their dignity as investigations continue.
