The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has apprehended 33-year-old Festus Arasa Omwamba, a key suspect in a human trafficking syndicate targeting vulnerable Kenyans.
The arrest was carried out by detectives stationed at Moyale Police Station, highlighting the DCI’s ongoing crackdown on organized criminal networks.
According to the DCI, Festus is suspected of luring individuals with promises of legitimate employment in European countries.
However, victims are reportedly forced into illegal and hazardous work upon arrival, stripping them of their dignity and exposing them to significant risks.
“Festus Arasa Omwamba has been on our radar for some time due to his involvement in human trafficking. His arrest is a result of persistent intelligence-led operations and close collaboration with multiple agencies,” the DCI stated.
Festus is currently in custody and undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment.
Authorities emphasized that this arrest forms part of broader efforts to dismantle syndicates exploiting vulnerable populations under the pretext of legitimate job offers abroad.
The DCI urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious recruitment practices, stressing that human trafficking is a serious crime with severe legal consequences.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to protecting citizens from exploitation and bringing offenders to justice.
This case underscores the dangers faced by Kenyans seeking opportunities abroad through unofficial channels and highlights the critical role of law enforcement in curbing human trafficking networks.
Multi-agency collaboration, sustained intelligence operations, and community awareness remain central to preventing such crimes.
The DCI has assured that investigations into the syndicate continue, with a focus on identifying and apprehending other members involved in exploiting vulnerable individuals.
Festus’s arrest marks a significant step in Kenya’s fight against human trafficking, reinforcing the government’s stance against criminal networks that endanger citizens under the guise of legitimate employment opportunities.
