Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a 53-year-old woman in a drug interdiction operation along the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway, as authorities intensify efforts to disrupt trafficking routes linking border towns to the capital.

In a statement, the DCI said officers from the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) intercepted a passenger bus travelling from Busia to Nairobi after acting on intelligence reports.

The bus, registration number KDV 716C and operated by Crane Coach, was stopped at Limuru for a targeted search.

During the operation, detectives recovered one large wrapped bundle of green plant material concealed inside a polythene bag, along with two smaller packages containing similar substances.

The material is suspected to be cannabis, commonly known as bhang.

The suspect, identified as Ruth Wambui Muthiri, was taken into custody at the scene and later escorted to Muthaiga Police Station for processing.

Authorities confirmed that the case has been handed over to the Anti-Narcotics Unit at DCI Headquarters to facilitate further investigations and possible prosecution.

Investigators believe the seizure is part of a broader trafficking chain exploiting public transport corridors to move narcotics from border entry points to urban markets.

Limuru and the Nairobi–Nakuru transport corridor have previously been flagged as strategic interception points due to their heavy traffic and connectivity to major towns.

The DCI reiterated its commitment to dismantling organized criminal networks involved in drug trafficking, noting that intelligence-led operations remain central to the agency’s strategy.
