Newly elected Charles Kanjama has issued his first public statement following his election as President of the Law Society of Kenya, pledging disciplined leadership, unity within the Bar, and a renewed commitment to defending the rule of law.
In an acceptance message addressed to members of the legal fraternity, Kanjama said the election outcome reflected the clear will of advocates across the country.
He described the poll as competitive and credible, noting that the strong turnout gave legitimacy and authority to the result.
Kanjama congratulated his competitors for what he termed a robust contest, saying the process strengthened the society’s democratic traditions.
He also praised lawyers who participated in large numbers, stating that their turnout affirmed the profession’s commitment to sober, steady, and principled leadership.
“The will of the membership cannot be bent by undue influence,” he said, emphasizing that the vote sent a powerful message about the independence and integrity of the Bar.
He expressed gratitude to his campaign team and supporters, noting that their efforts transformed what began as a modest campaign into a decisive national victory.
According to Kanjama, the margin of victory gives him a clear mandate to lead and implement reforms.
The incoming president said his administration will soon outline a governance framework as he prepares to formally assume office in March.
He stressed that the society must remain united and focused on protecting members’ welfare, defending constitutionalism, and strengthening the justice system.
Kanjama also congratulated the incoming council leadership and pledged close collaboration to build a formidable and cohesive governing team.
He thanked outgoing leaders for their stewardship, adding that institutions endure when leadership transitions are handled with care and respect.
“The work begins now,” he said, urging members to reflect, celebrate, and prepare for the task ahead.
