Former Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter has come to the defense of Edwin Sifuna, arguing that attempts to politically sideline the Nairobi Senator mirror past miscalculations by his critics.
In a statement posted on X, Keter dismissed claims that Sifuna’s influence would fade quickly amid internal party disputes.
He likened the situation to that of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, popularly associated with Wamunyoro, saying those who predicted his political irrelevance were proven wrong. To Continue Reading, ...Click Here
“The same people who said Wamunyoro would be forgotten in two weeks are now repeating the same mistake. It has been one and a half years and he is still giving them sleepless nights,” Keter wrote. “Now they claim Sifuna will be forgotten within a month?”
Keter’s remarks come at a time when Sifuna remains at the center of a leadership dispute within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). While some party officials have sought to remove him from his role as Secretary General, Sifuna has rejected the move, insisting it violates party procedures and that he remains the duly elected holder of the position.
The standoff reflects broader tensions within ODM over its political direction ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Sifuna has emerged as a prominent voice opposing closer cooperation with President William Ruto’s administration, positioning himself as a firm opposition figure.
Keter’s comments add to the growing political debate surrounding Sifuna’s future, underscoring how internal party struggles continue to shape Kenya’s evolving opposition politics.
