Internal divisions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have resurfaced after Homa Town MP Peter Kaluma launched a fresh attack on Nairobi Senator and party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, accusing him of working against the party’s core political position.
In a series of remarks shared on X, Kaluma alleged that Sifuna’s conduct has increasingly aligned with the interests of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, despite ODM’s public opposition to the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Kaluma also questioned the legitimacy of Sifuna’s hold on the powerful Secretary General position, claiming the appointment did not follow established party procedures.
According to the MP, Sifuna was directly appointed by ODM leader Raila Odinga without a formal election or endorsement by the party’s mandated organs, an issue he says now requires urgent review.
The Homa Town legislator has called on the National Delegates Conference (NDC), ODM’s highest decision-making body, to intervene and reassess Sifuna’s leadership roles, including his position within the Senate.
He maintained that only the NDC has the authority to resolve such disputes and restore internal order.
The dispute comes at a time when ODM is grappling with internal disagreements over cooperation with the ruling coalition.
While some leaders have taken a conciliatory approach towards Kenya Kwanza, others, including Sifuna, have remained outspoken critics of the government.
Kaluma’s remarks underline growing unease within ODM over discipline, loyalty, and decision-making, exposing fault lines that could shape the party’s political direction ahead of future national contests.
