EALA MP Winnie Odinga has defended Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, praising his leadership and reaffirming his right to voice opinions on party alliances.
Speaking in a Tuesday night interview on Citizen TV, Winnie acknowledged Sifuna’s popularity in Nairobi and highlighted the importance of respecting elected officials’ views.
“Sifuna has been stellar. As a representative of the people of Nairobi, he is one of the more popular elected leaders,” she said.
Sifuna has publicly opposed a potential coalition between ODM and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and has cautioned against deepening ties between the party and the Kenya Kwanza administration.
His stance has stirred debate within ODM, with some viewing it as a challenge to the party’s strategic direction.
Winnie Odinga emphasized that internal debate is essential for democracy.
“I believe that Edwin Sifuna has a right to say his opinion. He is an elected leader, and he has a right to speak whatever it is that he wants to speak,” she said.
Party insiders have indicated that while the leadership is exploring broader partnerships to expand its influence, divergent views within the party remain significant.
