Ugandan authorities have dismissed reports circulating on social media that National Unity Platform (NUP) president Bobi Wine was forcibly removed from his home by an army helicopter.

In a statement to the press, police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke described the allegations as “deceitful and inciteful,” aimed at portraying security agencies as brutal and infringing on the rights of political figures.

“Bobi Wine was not picked up by an army helicopter overnight and flown to an unknown location,” Rusoke said.

Police confirmed that the former presidential candidate remains at his residence in Kampala, though there is a visible security presence around his home.

Officials explained that the deployment is precautionary, as the area is considered an “area of interest.”

The clarification comes after social media reports sparked concern among supporters of Bobi Wine, who have previously accused the government of intimidation and harassment during political events.

Larry Madowo, a CNN journalist, was among those who shared updates urging accuracy in reporting, emphasizing that claims of the helicopter arrest were unverified.

The police have called on the public and media to rely on verified information and warned against sharing unconfirmed reports that could incite unrest.

Bobi Wine has not made a public statement regarding the claims but continues to be under heightened security observation at his home.
