Former Kibra parliamentary aspirant and political commentator Dr Owiti Owayo has claimed that a group of senior ODM leaders could soon be removed from their party positions following a Central Management Committee meeting held on Monday in Kilifi County.
In remarks shared on social media, Owayo alleged that ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, Deputy Party Leader Geoffrey Osotsi, and other leaders he described as “rebels” are on the verge of being pushed out of the party’s leadership.
He claimed that President William Ruto had directed ODM Party Leader Oburu Odinga to convene a crisis meeting aimed at setting a timeline, not later than February, to expunge the dissenting leaders.
According to Owayo, the urgency surrounding the Kilifi meeting is linked to broader political calculations ahead of the 2027 General Election.
He argued that the ODM leadership is under pressure to resolve internal disagreements quickly in order to safeguard its place in an anticipated pre-election political arrangement with President Ruto.
Owayo further claimed that failure by Oburu Odinga’s camp to decisively deal with internal dissent could force President Ruto to seek alternative political alliances, particularly in the Mount Kenya region.
The remarks come at a time when the party has been grappling with visible internal tensions over strategy, leadership, and engagement with the Kenya Kwanza administration.
