Senior counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has intensified scrutiny on Northern Kenya’s leadership, accusing regional politicians of misappropriating public funds and fueling underdevelopment.
Posting on social media, Ahmednasir expressed support for former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who has in recent months criticized corruption among leaders in the North.
“The neglect of the North is serious, but corruption by their leaders is equally damaging,” Ahmednasir said.
He cited that since 2013, over Sh1 trillion has been allocated to Northern counties through devolved funds, CDF, donor contributions, and central government grants.
Ahmednasir argued that a forensic audit would reveal that nearly 90 percent of these funds were misused or siphoned off, denying residents basic services and development opportunities.

The senior counsel also criticized the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), describing last week’s report that ranked Marsabit as Kenya’s least corrupt county as “laughable.”
He warned that without serious oversight, the watchdog risks becoming complicit in the mismanagement of public resources.
Ahmednasir called for a national dialogue to address the issue, proposing a “kamkunji” to examine where the billions allocated to Northern counties have gone, whether in local development, investments in Nairobi, or abroad.
“The corruption genocide of Northern Kenya must end,” he stated.
Ahmednasir’s intervention is likely to reignite discussions on resource mismanagement in the North, raising pressure on both local leaders and national institutions to account for billions in public funds.
