The National Police Service (NPS) has moved to reassure the public following a deadly security incident in Hulugho, Garissa County, where a local chief and a teacher were killed on Monday.
A multi-agency team has since been deployed to the area, with authorities saying the region has been secured as operations continue to track down those responsible.
Police described the incident as a serious security breach but stressed that measures had been taken to prevent further attacks.
According to the statement, patrols and security operations have been heightened in Hulugho and surrounding areas to ensure the safety of residents.
“The National Police Service understands the anxiety such incidents cause residents and all Kenyans,” the statement read, adding that protecting lives and property remains the service’s top priority.
Members of the public were urged to remain calm, vigilant, and to cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.
The NPS also appealed for information that could aid the probe, encouraging residents to report tips to the nearest police station or through toll-free emergency numbers 999, 911, or 112.
The police further noted that information can be shared anonymously through the #FichuaKwaDCI hotline or via WhatsApp, with assurances that all reports will be treated confidentially.
Garissa County has in the past faced security challenges linked to its proximity to the Kenya–Somalia border, with authorities maintaining that sustained operations are key to restoring stability and public confidence in affected areas.
