Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has issued a direct warning to Embakasi East MP Babu Owino over his reported 2027 Nairobi gubernatorial ambitions, suggesting the lawmaker reconsider his strategy.
Speaking on X, Kaluma claimed that Owino’s Kikuyu in-laws have already endorsed Embakasi North MP James Gakuya as their candidate, leaving little room for Owino to secure cross-community support in the capital.
Kaluma advised Owino to explore a partnership with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja as a running mate in 2027.
Such a move, he noted, would allow Owino to remain influential in city politics while positioning himself for a stronger bid in 2032.
The Homa Bay legislator emphasised that Owino’s age remains an advantage, and patience could serve him better than immediate action.
The advice has sparked debate online, with some praising Kaluma’s frank guidance as pragmatic, while others view it as intrusive.
Political analysts suggest the comments highlight early alliance-building and maneuvering ahead of the 2027 race, which is already shaping up to be highly competitive.
Owino has yet to respond to Kaluma’s message. Observers say the coming months will be crucial as Nairobi politicians solidify their campaigns and navigate ethnic and political calculations, with alliances likely to determine the frontrunners for the gubernatorial seat.
