MP Muthoni Marubu

Suba North MP Millie Mabona Odhiambo has condemned the harassment of Lamu Women Representative Muthoni Marubu, who faced jeers and a physical attempt to be removed while expressing her support for President William Ruto during a burial in Murang’a County on Saturday.

In a statement shared on social media, Odhiambo described the attack as “cowardly” and emphasized that violence, particularly against women, is unacceptable in any political context.

“I strongly condemn the physical attack of Hon. Muthoni for expressing her political preference. Violence, especially violence against women, is cowardly,” she said.

The controversy erupted when Marubu shouted “Two Term” during her address at the funeral, signaling her backing for President Ruto, who is seeking re-election in 2027.

The act drew immediate backlash from some mourners, leading to scuffles that required intervention by security personnel to protect the legislator.

Odhiambo urged Kenyans to respect political expression, stressing that citizens and leaders alike should be allowed to support their preferred candidates without fear of intimidation or harm.

“Support your Wantam and allow her to support her Tutam non-violently,” she wrote, referencing local political vernacular.

The incident highlights the growing tension in political spaces, even in traditionally solemn events such as funerals, as the country prepares for the 2027 elections.

After the incident Marubu took to her social media and clarified that she was safe.

Hosea Karubare: so she travelled all the way from Lamu to come to shout Singapore and tutam was she wise or testing the ground.
