Kirinyaga politician Irungu Goko has publicly criticized Suna East MP Junet Mohamed for allegedly derailing a key Azimio la Umoja rally in Kirinyaga during the 2022 general elections.

Goko, who coordinated the event, claimed the disruption contributed to poor performance for Raila Odinga in the region.

In a detailed post on social media, Goko described how months of planning by Jubilee Kirinyaga volunteers had gone into ensuring a successful rally at Wanguru Stadium.

According to him, the event had mobilized a large crowd, impressing Raila Odinga, who personally praised Goko’s efforts during the morning stopovers.

However, Goko alleged that Junet unilaterally declared himself the master of ceremonies, sidelining the planned leadership.

“I protested because the MC role should have gone to Kabinga Wachira or another local Kikuyu politician,” Goko said.

He added that Junet, who is not from the area, did not understand the local dynamics.

The disruption, Goko claims, affected not only the rally but also the morale of Jubilee candidates.

“If that rally had happened three months before the elections, I am sure 90% of our candidates would have defected to KK,” he said.

He noted that many supporters and campaigners were left with unanswered questions, shaking trust in the political process.

Goko also linked the rally disruption to wider issues in the Azimio campaign, including alleged mismanagement of funds intended for local agents.

He described the mishandling of the agent system as the “climax” of Junet’s interference.

Despite the criticism, Goko emphasized moving forward.

“We focus on the next one; the past is past,” he said, calling for unity and lessons from past mistakes.

The remarks come amid growing scrutiny of Junet Mohamed, who faces criticism from several quarters for his role in the Azimio campaign and alleged financial mismanagement.
