A husband and wife, along with an accomplice, appeared in Kibera Law Courts on Thursday, facing charges for their alleged role in a Sh22.15 million misappropriation from the National Oil Corporation of Kenya (NOCK).

The trio—Gladys Kahaki Njubi, a former Assistant Accountant at NOCK; her husband, Griffin Nyakang’o Omwenga; and Nehemia Onyunge Kibegwa—were charged with conspiracy to defraud, theft by servant, forgery, and possession of proceeds of crime, among other offences.

All three pleaded not guilty and were remanded pending a bond ruling set for February 4, 2026.

Investigations by detectives from the Investigations Bureau under the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum revealed that Gladys orchestrated the fraud while at NOCK.

She allegedly exploited her role in processing payments to channel nearly Sh22 million into companies owned by her husband—Zoccom Enterprises, Eceny Ventures, Earthcare Supplier Services, Sparktec Ventures, and Jaffer Petrofill Africa—despite these firms having no contracts or prior dealings with the corporation.

To cover the scheme, Gladys reportedly used authentic documents from legitimate contractors, masking the involvement of her husband’s companies.

Kibegwa, director of Kensons Constructions Limited, also benefited financially despite lacking prior engagement with NOCK.

The case came to light after NOCK filed a formal complaint on suspected misappropriation of funds.

Following a thorough probe, the case file was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, which authorized charges against the trio.

The DCI lauded the investigation, noting it demonstrates the agency’s determination to fight corruption and protect public resources.

“This case reinforces our commitment to ensuring accountability and that those who defraud the public face the full force of the law,” the DCI said in a statement shared on social media.

The trial is set to continue, with investigators promising full cooperation to secure justice for the public funds allegedly stolen.
