Interior Principal Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has underscored Trans Nzoia County’s central role in Kenya’s food security and economic growth, calling for accelerated development to unlock the region’s full potential.

In a statement shared on X, Murkomen said that while Trans Nzoia remains a key agricultural hub, more deliberate efforts are required to fast-track infrastructure development and address the needs and aspirations of its residents.

He spoke after attending a high-level consultative meeting with leaders from the county, focused on the implementation of priority government projects.

The meeting, chaired by Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir at Transcom House in Nairobi, brought together national and county leaders to review progress and identify bottlenecks affecting development initiatives in the region.

Discussions centred on the expansion and upgrading of road networks, alongside other critical infrastructure aimed at stimulating investment and accelerating economic growth.

Murkomen noted that improved infrastructure is essential to strengthening agricultural value chains, enhancing market access, and supporting broader economic activity in the county, which is often referred to as Kenya’s grain basket.

He emphasized that sustained collaboration between national government agencies and local leadership would be critical in delivering measurable outcomes.

The Interior PS also praised what he described as a strong partnership between the government and Trans Nzoia leaders, saying the cooperation demonstrated a shared commitment to advancing the county’s development agenda and improving livelihoods.

Among those present at the meeting were Roads Principal Secretary Eng. Joseph Mbugua, Kiminini MP Kakai Bisau, Endebbes MP Dr Robert Pukose, Trans Nzoia Woman Representative Lillian Siyoi, National Standards Council Chairperson Dr Chris Wamalwa, and Central Bank of Kenya Deputy Governor Dr Susan Koech, alongside other senior officials.

The engagement comes amid renewed government focus on infrastructure-led growth as a catalyst for regional development, particularly in agriculturally productive counties such as Trans Nzoia.
