Police in Kisumu County have intercepted a large consignment of suspected cannabis sativa, arresting two individuals in a coordinated road operation along the Kisumu–Nairobi Highway.

The operation, conducted by officers from Ahero Police Station, began when a motor vehicle failed to stop at a routine roadblock in Ahero.

The driver attempted to evade police, prompting a pursuit that ended in Ngere, where the vehicle was finally brought to a halt.

Upon inspection, officers discovered three sacks containing cannabis hidden in various compartments of the vehicle.

Two 90kg sacks were concealed behind the driver’s seat, while another 90kg sack was found atop the fuel tank, making a total of 270 kilograms of suspected narcotics.

Both the driver and the passenger were immediately arrested and are currently held at Ahero Police Station, awaiting formal charges.

The seized cannabis and the vehicle have been secured for further investigation.

The National Police Service described the operation as a key achievement in its ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking networks.

Authorities emphasized the importance of public cooperation in reporting suspicious activity to aid law enforcement efforts.

“The interception demonstrates the commitment of the National Police Service to fight narcotics trafficking and protect communities from the dangers associated with illegal drugs,” the police statement read.

This latest seizure highlights the persistent efforts by Kenyan authorities to curb drug smuggling along major transport corridors, which are frequently targeted by traffickers.
