Sports and Youth Affairs Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting young athletes, highlighting tennis as a sport that can transform lives and open global opportunities.
Speaking on X, CS Mvurya praised Angella Okutoyi, Kenya’s rising tennis star, for her resilience and talent.
“Tennis has the power to open doors, transform lives, and inspire our youth to dream beyond limitations. It builds discipline, resilience, and provides global opportunities for young people who dare to believe in their talent,” he said.
CS Mvurya confirmed that he has received Okutoyi’s appeal for assistance and has engaged the leadership of the Kenya Tennis Federation (KTF) to explore immediate support measures.
The Ministry will work closely with KTF to ensure Okutoyi is fully prepared and financially supported ahead of her next tournament in May.
“This Ministry remains committed to nurturing and supporting our athletes as they pursue excellence,” Mvurya added, encouraging Okutoyi to continue raising the bar and representing Kenya on the international stage.
Angella Okutoyi has emerged as one of Kenya’s most promising young tennis talents, inspiring aspiring athletes nationwide with her achievements and determination.
Her upcoming tournament is seen as a key opportunity to showcase her skills and put Kenyan tennis on the global map.
The Ministry’s intervention is expected to cover training support, travel logistics, and other necessary preparations, ensuring that Kenya’s talent is not hindered by financial or logistical challenges.
With government backing and the collaboration of KTF, Okutoyi’s journey reflects Kenya’s growing investment in sports as a platform for youth empowerment and international recognition.
