Businessman Oketch Salah made a dramatic aerial arrival in West Pokot on Thursday, touching down by helicopter to oversee ongoing community support initiatives aimed at mitigating the impact of the region’s worsening drought.

During his visit, Salah inspected water projects and a daily school feeding program that his foundation launched earlier this year, ensuring that vulnerable children have access to essential resources despite harsh conditions.

In a move to address the escalating food insecurity, he also unveiled a new community food support program.

Under the initiative, families affected by the drought will receive food supplies twice every month for the duration of the crisis.

“Access to clean water and food is not charity—it is a responsibility,” Salah said on social media, highlighting the moral imperative of aiding communities in distress.

“We will continue to stand with our people and support our communities during these difficult times.”

The projects are part of a broader push to strengthen resilience against climate-induced hardships in arid regions of Kenya.

The businessman’s hands-on approach, combining oversight with direct community engagement, has drawn attention across social media platforms, underlining the growing role of private actors in supplementing government efforts in regions grappling with prolonged droughts.

Salah’s visit signals a renewed focus on sustainable philanthropy, emphasizing long-term solutions to food and water insecurity rather than one-off donations.
