Nandi Senator Kiprotich Cherargei on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, accusing his administration of mismanagement that has stalled development and caused suffering among residents.

Speaking during a Senate County Public Accounts Committee meeting at the Parliament Buildings, Cherargei highlighted serious lapses revealed in the Office of the Auditor-General (OAG) report for the 2024/25 financial year.

The report cited multiple red flags, including a poorly performing revenue collection system, low revenue inflows, and pending bills amounting to Sh2.56 billion with no proper explanation.

Additionally, numerous county projects have stalled, denying residents essential services.

Key unfinished projects include the Kenyatta Stadium, Kijana Wamalwa Hospital, and the Kitale Town Multi-Storey Business Centre.

“The maladministration in Trans Nzoia is causing untold suffering for the people,” Cherargei said.

“These projects were meant to uplift livelihoods and promote development, yet they lie abandoned due to negligence at the county level.”

The committee directed the county government to fast-track the completion of the stalled projects, emphasizing that the delay is unacceptable and detrimental to the county’s socio-economic growth.

Cherargei also warned that continued inaction could trigger stricter oversight measures by the Senate.

The Senate committee pledged to monitor progress closely, insisting that residents of Trans Nzoia should not bear the brunt of bureaucratic inefficiency and political mismanagement.
