National Unity Platform (NUP) President Bobi Wine has urged Ugandans to ignore the election results being announced by the Uganda Electoral Commission, accusing the body of disseminating “fake” figures.

In a statement posted on X on Friday, Bobi Wine questioned the legitimacy of the results, claiming that the commission’s spokesperson, Byabakama, could not provide the source of the figures being shared publicly.

“Ignore the fake results being announced by Byabakama. He can't tell anybody where those results are coming from.

Our agents at the tally centre are asking him for the source of these results, and the regime enabler can't say a thing,” Bobi Wine said.

He stressed that the people of Uganda would ultimately determine the outcome of the elections, dismissing the commission’s announcements as “nonsense.”

The NUP leader has repeatedly alleged irregularities during the electoral process, including interference at polling stations and issues at tallying centres, although the Electoral Commission maintains that the voting and counting processes have been conducted in line with legal requirements.

Bobi Wine’s comments come as Uganda awaits official confirmation of the results from the commission following the Thursday, January 15 polls.

The announcement has heightened tensions, with opposition supporters calling for transparency and greater accountability in the handling of the vote count.
