"Anawaletea Wengine Shida": Top Somali Leader in the U.S. Accused of Stoking Trouble for Her Community

Social media influencer Nafula has sparked debate after accusing U.S. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of fueling tensions among Somali communities in the United States. 

Her comments come in the wake of a government announcement urging some Somalis to consider voluntary departure from the U.S. by March.

In a Facebook post, Nafula expressed frustration, claiming Omar is stirring anger instead of allowing grievances to pass. 

“Huyu Msomali ndio analetea wasomali wenzake ngori!” she wrote, suggesting that while some Somalis faced legal and financial challenges, Omar was publicly engaging in disputes with high-profile figures like Elon Musk instead of protecting her constituents.

Nafula criticized the mixed messages being sent to Somali refugees, pointing out that many are already vulnerable. 

“Kama African American walikuja huku na meli na bado wanakandamizwa huku, wewe msomali ulikam kama refugee uta do ma what?” she questioned, highlighting perceived double standards in treatment between African Americans and Somali refugees.

She also noted that the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) program, which has sheltered many Somalis, has been a point of contention. 

Nafula warned that Omar’s actions could exacerbate fear and uncertainty among 2,400 individuals facing possible repatriation.

The post has since drawn reactions from across social media circles, with some supporting Nafula’s view that community leaders should focus on advocacy and protection, while others defend Omar, emphasizing the complexity of U.S. immigration policy.

As the March deadline approaches, the conversation around Somali refugees in the U.S. is heating up, with Nafula’s comments adding a provocative voice to the debate.
