Senior counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has called for the resignation of Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, following last Sunday’s attack on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at Witima Church.
Abdullahi’s remarks came amid heightened political tensions after United opposition leaders visited Vigilance House on Friday to demand investigations into the incident.
In a post on X, Abdullahi criticized government decision-making and questioned the role of police officers in political events.
He described Gachagua as “struggling politically” and “a very lonely soul at Wamunyoro,” claiming that his influence in Central Kenya is weakening as allies desert him and financial backers remain absent.
According to Abdullahi, the former deputy president’s unpredictable conduct has left him vulnerable, while the United opposition increasingly rallies behind more “formidable and affable” candidates.
Abdullahi accused police officers of deliberately disrupting Gachagua’s rallies, describing their actions as “stupid” and “clueless.”
He demanded accountability for the officers involved and questioned the broader competence of government leadership.
“When STUPID people make crucial decisions for government, things go south,” he wrote, urging President William Ruto to consider replacing the Inspector General.
The senior counsel also suggested that former President Uhuru Kenyatta is waiting for a strategic moment to undermine Gachagua’s political efforts, framing the Witima Church incident as part of a wider struggle for influence in Mount Kenya.
